Understanding alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) size reversion due to autooxidation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) is a sizing agent. The wettability of paperboard decreases when ASA applied. efficacy in board can be reversed under certain conditions, making the paper more hydrophilic and lesser quality/value. Although it broadly known that size reversion due to autooxidation presence oxygen air, environmental parameters initiate or catalyze this reaction are not well understood. Six different experimental set ups were used understand how temperature, daylight, fluorescent light, ultravio-let (UV) darkness affect oxidation ASA. Cobb values pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrom-etry (Py-GCMS) results show simple oxidation. was found significantly light dependent. Temperature variations have moderate effect on chemical stability.

Using Cationic Polymers to Improve Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride (asa) Sizing Efficiency in High-yield Pulp Containing Furnish

High-yield pulp (HYP) such as bleached chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp (BCTMP) from aspen wood, is now being used in the production of highquality fine papers, and this is particularly true in China. In this study, the effect of using cationic polymers such as poly-aluminum chloride (PAC), polyethylenimine (PEI), cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM), and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) ...

Adsorption of cytochrome c by succinic anhydride-modified peanut shells

A novel adsorbent based on peanut shells modified with glutaraldehyde and succinic anhydride was prepared. Factors affecting the adsorption capacity, such as the pH, temperature, adsorption time, initial cytochrome c (cyt c) concentration and NaCl ionic strength, were extensively investigated. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of the modified peanut shells (MPSs) was 432.6...

Substitution of High-yield-pulp for Hardwood Bleached Kraft Pulp in Paper Production and Its Effect on Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride Sizing

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in using high-yield pulp (HYP) as a partial replacement for hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HWBKP) in the production of high-quality fine papers as a cost-effective way of improving the product performance. This study investigated the substitution of HYP for HWBKP and its effect on the Alkenyl Succinic Anhydride (ASA) sizing performance. The r...

Head bobbing due to succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency.

A 9-month-old boy had a short history of “yes-yes” head bobbing (video on the Neurology Web site at www. neurology.org). Mild global delay prompted investigation. Imaging (figure, A–C), biochemical, and molecular findings (table e-1) were consistent with succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency. SSADH deficiency, a -aminobutyric acid degradation disorder, may be associated with mo...

Occupational asthma due to hexahydrophthalic anhydride: a case report.

Hexahydrophthalic anhydride (HHPA) belongs to the family of acid anhydrides, the members of which are reactive organic chemicals of low molecular weight widely used in alkyd and epoxy resins. The major toxic effects ofthe acid anhydrides are mucosal and skin irritation and respiratory hypersensitivity, particularly asthma. Most of the reported cases of asthma caused by acid anhydrides were due ...
